☀️ Why Summer Sleep Feels So Off (And How to Fix It)

Is it just me, or does summer totally throw your sleep schedule out of whack?

Lately, I’ve been noticing it’s harder to fall asleep — and guess what? It’s not just in my head. Between longer daylight hours, warmer temperatures, and a more relaxed vibe overall, summer really does affect our sleep. 😴🔥

The Science Behind It

Your body’s internal clock, also known as your circadian rhythm, actually shifts with the seasons. That means when the sun stays out until 9PM, your body may think it’s too early to start winding down — even though your alarm is still going off at the same time the next morning. Not ideal.

And let’s be honest: summer schedules are all over the place. Late-night dinners, weekend getaways, and spontaneous plans can easily knock us out of our regular routines.

What’s Been Helping Me Sleep Better Lately

If you’ve been feeling a little off, here are a few things I’ve added to my routine that have made a big difference:

✔️ Blackout curtains — total game changer. They block out that late-evening sun and help my body realize it’s bedtime.

✔️ Staying hydrated — drinking enough water throughout the day helps regulate body temperature and supports better sleep.

✔️ Winding down earlier — I’m starting my routine 30 minutes sooner, with calming tea, screen-free time, and dimmed lights to help signal to my brain that it’s time to chill.

Bonus Tip: Track Your Sleep

This week, I’m also tracking my sleep — just using a simple app and a few journal notes — to see how my rest shifts throughout the season. It’s been really eye-opening (pun intended 😄), and I totally recommend giving it a try!
